FRUITFUL IMAGINATION

Dear Hopeless Christian,
Thanks for sharing your shoveling experience.I am happy to know that you are applying the first key. Keep doing it, who knows later you will want to change your name into Hopeful Christian.

Now, let’s talk about the third key: fruitful imagination. Rome 1:21 says the ungodly people have futile thinking. The word “thinking” or dialogismos in this verse can also be translated as imagination.

Imagination is usually talked about in children education. It’s good for the children to use their imagination. They play pretend and make believe. They imagine themselves to be a pirate or a princess or a superhero.

As a Christian, unfortunately, we seldom talk about imagination.Imagination is the ability to see with our heart what we can’t see with our eyes. We use our imagination every day.

For example; when someone asks you how many doors you have in your home, you will imagine your house and start to count the doors.
When someone say the word apple, in your mind, you will see a picture of an apple, maybe a red one or a green one if you like green apple.

In other words, imagination is a combination of how you think, how you meditate and how you remember things.

Isaiah 26:3 says,“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.”

The word mind in this verse has another meaning  which is imagination. God will give us peace if our imagination is aligned with His way, His promises and His will.

To have our imagination aligned with God, of course the first and foremost we have to know God, his will, his promises and the way He’s operating. We can learn about all these in the Bible.

Let's examine our imagination. For example when it's snowing hard, what do you think in your imagination ? You can imagine you have an accident because the road is slippery. You can imagine you hit the car in front of you because your car doesn't stop when you brake. Because of that imagination you became stressful and worried when it's snowing. That is an example futile imagination.

When the futile thinking appears in our imagination, we can choose to stop ourselves from thinking about it further. We can concentrate about God's promises instead.

Psalm 32:7 comes in handy when travelling in bad weather. You are my hiding place, you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance

Dear Hopeless Christian, that’s all for now. I wish we train our imagination to be fruitful and not futile.

In Christ,
